FAQs

Q. What is this site?

A. The J/C Story Index is a collection of links to stories featuring Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway, her First Officer Chakotay, and their relationship  -- professionally, friendly, and romantically.

This site is a restoration of the original J/C Story Index site, which hasn't been updated in a couple years. The links to the authors and stories that were there and that are still available on the internet can be found here now and new submissions can now be included.

Q. How do I submit a story to the J/C Story Index?

A. There are three options: The J/C Index Message Board (if your story is PG-13 or lower), The J/C Index Livejournal Community (only if you have an account on LJ, of course), or you can email me (Rina) at jcindex@insightbb.com.

Q. What information do I need to provide?

A. The most important things are the author, title, link to the story, a short summary, and the rating of the story.. As a courtesy, you might want to including in your summary any warnings about rape, violence, character deaths, etc., if they apply to the story you are submitting. Some readers prefer not to read about their characters in certain scenarios.

Q. How's the rating system going to work?

A. For simplicity's sake, I stuck with what was used on the old index while transferring stories here. G, PG, and PG-13 stories are all still grouped together under PG-13, and of course stories rated R and NC-17 are still listed as such. If there's a popular demand to make G and PG their own categories, I can do that. For right now, though, I will stick with the old system.

Also, I did run across several stories that were listed under the wrong rating while I was building this site. I moved those I did find to the correct rating, but I may have missed a few (unfortunately, I don't have time to confirm every single story is indeed listed properly, especially if an author hasn't listed the rating at the top of the page). If you find a story that is listed under the wrong rating, let me know and I will move it to the proper listing.

Q. Can you host my stories?

A. Not at this time. There are several individuals within the fandom that are willing to host "homeless" writers, though.

Q. Why isn't everything thing from the old index on this new index?

A. There were quite a few dead links throughout the old site. A number of authors have pulled down or moved their sites. I've tried to find the newer sites or figure out which sites and stories are long gone. Unfortunately, I don't possess the Q's omnipotence, so I've not figured out what the situation is with every single missing author or story. With some help from others, I have found some of them and have provided the new links.

I did keep track of the missing authors and missing stories (of authors that are listed here) of I haven't found elsewhere. If you have any information such as where those missing authors and/or  fanfics are currently being housed (or if they're no longer available), please let me know.

Q. I'm one of the authors that was listed on the old index. Why didn't you add my newer stories to this index?

A. I've only transferred the remaining stories that were already listed over there. Some authors prefer that their work not be linked to unless they've given permission for it to be linked. Rather than possibly upset someone by listing work she or he hasn't said could be indexed, I will wait until that newer work is actually submitted by those authors before adding them here.

Q. I don't want to be included as an author on this site anymore.

A. If you decide that you no longer want  your work (or even just a particular story) to be linked to on this site, just let me know and I'll remove you ASAP.
